Pet hair settles into sofas, bedding and car seats because loose fibres cling to textured fabric. A simple routine can remove most of it without a constant supply of disposable sticky sheets.
Start with a dry surface
Work on dry fabric whenever possible. Moisture can push hair deeper into upholstery and make it clump in seams. Remove cushions, shake out washable covers and vacuum obvious loose debris before using a manual tool.
Choose the right tool for the fabric
A reusable two-sided brush works well on many tightly woven sofas, cushions, bedding and vehicle seats. Move it back and forth with light pressure so the textured surface lifts hair into the collection chamber. Empty the chamber as it fills.
For delicate material, test a hidden patch first. Avoid loose knits, embroidery, sequins, damaged upholstery and any surface that catches or snags. A surface-cleaning brush should never be used directly on an animal.
Clean in a useful order
- Move cushions and clear the area.
- Vacuum crumbs and grit that could scratch or spread.
- Brush the main flat surfaces in short overlapping passes.
- Work around seams and edges with lighter pressure.
- Empty the chamber and make one final pass.
On car seats, clean from the top of the backrest toward the seat base. Hair naturally collects in the lower seams, so leaving those areas until last makes the job faster.
Reduce the next buildup
